.xsession-error Log. Excerpt that applies to this issue.

Overview:
After updating a fresh install of Sabayon 4.1 (from LiveDVD; having followed the instructions at [ http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Entropy#Fresh_Install_-_What_to_do.3F ]) Gnome Applets fail to load. Occurs on new and old installations upon upgrading to Gnome 2.26.1 via world update.

Error given:

! The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_<appletname>".
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?
     X Don't Delete X Delete

Many people are having this exact issue. See [ http://forum.sabayonlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=17160 ]

Steps to Reproduce:
    1) Perform World update with equo that includes updating Gnome to version 2.26.1

    2) Add an affected applet to a panel if you don't already have one setup. Upon login or adding the applet the error will occur as gnome-panel is loading applet(s)

Additional Builds and Platforms:
According to users in the thread listed above this occurs in both SL Gnome 32 and 64 bit versions.

Additional Information:
Initial steps attempted by several people to fix included running the following:
--equo remove gnome-power-manager
  equo install gnome-power-manager

--New user/delete configuration files (to make new ones)

--equo remove gnome-applets
  equo install gnome-applets

This issue is not brand new, I've seen this in other distros from older versions of Gnome as well (per findings in Google search)
[ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=810997 ]<- no solution listed
And several others with various solutions but vague.

Reverting to gnome-panel 2.26.1 fixes it. Fixed.
